More about our Volunteer Program

We are a small non-profit organization and we appreciate the help of our volunteers.

Volunteer in the Classroom

We bring published authors into high-need public schools to guide students through the process of creating original writing.  Our programs take place during school hours, incorporate multiple author visits to the same classroom, involve a writing and/or art project and include book donations to the students and school library.  We have 45 programs planned throughout the school year, so volunteer requests are sent regularly as dates are finalized.  Our classroom volunteers support the visiting author or teaching artist by encouraging and assisting students with their art and writing projects.

Volunteer in the Office

Your help is also appreciated outside the classroom.  We appreciate help with photography, public relations, special events, our websites, research, writing for the blog, performing office duties, mailings, and extending our community outreach by creating relationships with local businesses, local political leaders, and local media.

Email volunteer.behindthebook@gmail.com, for more details and to sign up.
