Photo of the Week with Susanna Pitzer

This week, Susanna Pitzer shares why she loves her favorite children’s book, There’s No Such Thing As a Dragon by Jack Kent

Susanna Pitzer with one of her favorite books, “There’s No Such Thing as a Dragon,” by Jack Kent

I was blown away by this book when I found it years ago. The fun illustrations caught my attention, then I fell in love with the story of a boy who wakes up one morning to find a small dragon at the end of his bed. Everyone tells him that there is no such thing as a dragon. As a result, the boy ignores the dragon who just keeps getting bigger and bigger in order to be noticed.

It brought to my mind two things, first, how sometimes we listen to others even when we can see the truth with our own eyes; and two, how when you have a problem and ignore it, the problem grows bigger and bigger until it runs away with your life…just as the dragon in this story gets so big that it runs away with the house.

I love this book now as much as I did when I first discovered it.

Be sure to check out last week’s Photo of the Week with Zetta Elliott too.  Happy reading
