Putting the Fun Back in Fundraising

Last night Behind the Book successfully hosted its Fourth Annual Benefit at the William Bennett Gallery in SoHo. There were drinks! Hors d’oeuvres (which, incidentally, were the only food in a five block radius)! Literary celebrities! Budding writers! Brilliant teachers! Enticing auction items! A good cause! And, perhaps most crucially, people willing to part with their money to support the cause.

The Year’s Work Begins

Behind the Book has kicked off the year with our first two visits!

On October 12th, our lovely and talented teaching artist Barbara Korein visited Ms. Sheryl Mayers’ 6th grade class at JHS 13 to conduct a journal-making workshop. Students used brightly colored paper, stickers, markers, pre-printed phrases, and magazine cutouts to decorate notebooks in a way that reflected their personality, with spectacular results:
